Packing for a relocation is full of tricky obstacles and twists, and no room is trickier than the kitchen. In addition, it can easily be the most time consuming room to prepare. In order to pack everything before your Southern California movers arrive, you’ll need a lot of planning and supplies. Besides packing all of your glasses and silverware, you’ll also need to pack kitchen appliances before moving from Seattle. Even though kitchen appliances do need special care, they aren’t hard to pack in general. There are slight differences between items, but the approach remains the same. All you need are good supplies and tips on how to pack your things without damages. Here, we will cover both of these topics and get you fully prepared. From the best materials to use, to the correct steps for packing different appliances. With our help, your upcoming relocation will be a breeze.

The supplies needed to pack kitchen appliances

As far as the supplies needed for the job, you won’t need anything special or high-end. You will, however, need to make sure that the supplies you have are in good condition. In addition, you need to have enough of them to do the whole packing operation in one go. Once everything is properly packed, you can let professional movers Seattle take over and relax. You will need the following packing supplies:

  • Boxes. As far as boxes go, it goes without saying that they need to be strong, new, preferably with reinforced bottoms. The best approach is packing appliances in boxes that are roughly the same size. This is why you should always save the original packaging, as it is made to fit. If you don’t have these special boxes at the ready, regular ones will do just fine.
  • Packing paper. You’ll need plenty of it both for wrapping your items and filling any gaps in the boxes. Alternatively, you can use old newspapers.
  • Bubble wrap. An essential tool in any relocation that deals with fragile items. Since you’re packing appliances, you’ll need plenty of it to protect them. Nothing can replace the humble bubble wrap when it comes to protecting sensitive circuitry.
  • Packing tape and zip ties. When it comes to packing appliances, securing everything in place is key. Zip ties are great for fixing cables and lids in place, while strong tape does wonders for boxes.
  • Markers and sticky notes. One of the golden rules of packing is that you should always label your boxes before the move. With that said, a few markers are an absolute must. Adding labels to everything will make the unpacking process so much easier.

Preparing your appliances for packing

Before you pack kitchen appliances for the move, it is a good idea to thoroughly clean them first. Do this if you want to avoid transporting grease, crumbs, and grime to your new home as well. If you’re short on time, a simple wipedown with a damp cloth will suffice, but if you can, be thorough. One step you should keep in mind is to let your appliances completely dry before packing them. Once you’re done, it’s time to start packing. International movers Seattle will always advise you to disassemble your items before packing them.  Parts like toaster crumb trays or food processor blades need to be separated and packed. When you pack them, keep them close to the item they belong to or tape them to the box. This way you will know which pieces belong to which item and assembling them will be easier.

Find properly sized boxes and carefully pack your kitchen appliances

As we mentioned before, when packing kitchen appliances, it is always best to use the original packaging they came in. Otherwise, use either a small or medium sized box, depending on the item’s size. Try not to put multiple items into one large box for safety reasons. Even if you properly pack and seal everything, you’re still handling sensitive items. For example, moving from Washington to California is a long and possibly bumpy road. And you don’t want your items smashing against each other in the same box. Begin preparing your appliances for packing by securing their power cords with zip ties and packing tape. If any of your devices have shutters or doors, make sure to keep them in place with a generous amount of tape.

Boxes are the most important part of the packing process, so get plenty of them

If you happen to be moving over long distances, note that strong tape may leave adhesive marks on surfaces. Should this happen, simply wipe down your items with adhesive remover after unpacking. Follow up by wrapping each appliance in packing paper, and don’t forget the small components you separated. Be generous with the paper and use at least three layers on the body of each appliance. Even though everything will be properly insulated, make sure to alert moving services Seattle about the fragile items when they arrive.  Lastly, ensure that the paper is tightly wrapped, and finish it off with packing tape to keep everything in place.

Box everything up and add plenty of labels

Before you enter the last stage of the journey, take your boxes and line them with packing paper to provide a bit of added padding for the items. Alternatively, you can use old towels as makeshift support. After this, carefully place your item inside, together with its smaller components. Take more packing paper and fill in any remaining gaps to ensure a snug fit. If you have plenty of space left in a smaller box, you can use it for packing other, less fragile kitchen items. Just make sure they are well wrapped too, so they don’t damage each other in transit.  Once you pack kitchen appliances, seal each box and label it accordingly. Be detailed with your labeling to avoid confusion, and make sure to explicitly label any boxes containing fragile items. This will let your movers know to handle them with special care, and everything will stay secure.
